Well, after a brief detour i'm back to musing again. So, what's weak this week? Let's burry the more interesting musings.
Also, happy "Volcano Day". Look up May 18th and Volcano. Used to have a jar of ash in my room.
Video Games:
Feels like another downcycle in video game appreciation for me. i already can't aim (problems with thumb stick aiming, also very hard for me to move both at the same time), so shooters are out. My processing / reaction time is down, which kind of limits games i can succeed in. i hate "open worlds" - full of empty spaces and awful traversal mechanics.
i have Game Pass until the end of the month but haven't played as much as i anticipated. Finished Avowed (disappointment). Started Starfield but quit when i couldn't take the spaceship anymore (hate the Z-axis). Started Indian Jones and the Golden Circle - eventually quit because i hate stealth.
Started Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 but hate the battle system (especially dodge/parry real time elements). Stop trying to put Souls like elements in every game, especially turn based. Massively overhyped game. Someone called the "Paintress" is an enemy. People turn into flowers when they reach a certain age - or is it impressionist brush strokes? Wonder if there is a "fake world" scenario going on there. Weak story so far (up to caves).
Anime:
Why are anime Blu-Rays so damn expensive? More than $3 an episode. Sucks when a 12-episode season is on sale for $40. i actually understand the reason for the higher cost, but i don't have to like it. i don't trust digital or streaming services to have what i want when i want it. Like to use retail prepaid cards purchased with cash for streaming, so Crunchyroll and Hidive are kind of out for me.
Been watching a bunch of anime again on Hulu. Our Last Crusade: Or the Rise of a New World started up episodes again - cool (too bad it is subbed). The standout of the past several months for me is still The Apothecary Diaries. Hulu please get Is it Wrong to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon: Season 5.
Isekai:
One of the trends in anime i have been watching is Isekai. Isekai is where characters have been transported to another world - usually through summoning or reincarnation. Many of these transported people are living out power fantasies. Helps in the scenarios where they actually have powers.
Who with an unfulfilling life hasn't briefly wished they could have lived in another place and time? Maybe different parents/genetics, a simpler less abstract time. With my luck, i'd be reincarnated to another world and the only thing i could aspire to is shoveling dung in a stable.
My current favorites are Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation and Wise Man's Grandchild (coming back to Hulu in June). Rising of the Shield Hero, Reincarnated as a Slime, and Arifuerta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest (kind of grew on me, start was a little gritty) also have their moments.
Polygamy:
Wait, how does polygamy tie into all of this? Well, a trope in Isekai is a harem.
To be fair, there would be very few who really understood what you went through - and if they were in your party... Then you have races/creatures that do not exist in your world - might as well sample the local delicacies.
Yes, it is a fantasy for a guy to be desired by multiple women. Some of us can't get one. But what if we lived in a world, that for some reason, women actually wanted us. It could be a mutually beneficial scenario - women and their offspring could be taken care of, and men could get heirs and sate their desires.
Marriage originated as a property contract. i have always wondered why marriage has any legal status at all (outside property transfer).
Polygamy is not a new concept. It has some practical applications in less complicated/abstract worlds. One is male/female population imbalance. One could be security/comfort.
Women gravitate to power/status/money. A rich, stable man could support multiple women. It doesn't have to be "love" (assuming that exists), just a mutually beneficial relationship including a level of respect. Though there will likely be some form of hierarchical structure.
Wondering if modern world would be easier with multiple committed partners. Wife one could be a career-oriented woman who might consent to 1-2 babies (if any), a secondary wife could run the household (cook, clean, garden), a 3rd wife could watch after the children (not just hers but all of them). Division of traditional female labor.
i can understand potential benefits of a man with multiple wives, but the benefit of a woman with multiple husbands eludes me.
