Ready for another installment of my popular Random Musings series? Afterall, low single digit (but hopefully non-zero) readers can't be wrong.
* Xmas specials watched so far this season: Twas the Night Before Christmas, Grinch, A Pinky and the Brain Christmas, and Rudolph.
* No Trick or Treaters this year, though the porch light was off and no pumpkins out. Thought candy was too expensive this year to give away. If the world goes the way i assume it will, i might need the candy for myself.
* i like Holiday Mint M&Ms and Wild Cherry Lifesavers (hard to find) - just saying. Milk chocolate with mint, i can't stand dark chocolate. However, $3.96 for a 9.2oz bag is pricy. The Wild Cherry Lifesavers used to be prominent in the Sweet Story Books we'd get many Xmases (now days it is just 5 Flavors). Another favorite was Butter Rum, Walmart had them (BR) last year and Safeway the year before.
* Watched some horror movies (as is proper) for Halloween. Though not sure anything in them is scarier than the modern world. From Army of Darkness to Urban Legend (forgot to watch overrated Young Frankenstein). Started too late, probably should have watched Universal Monster movies too. i forgot to watch the Michael Jackson "Thriller" video for the first time in years.
* Xmas tree: i put up my Xmas tree on Halloween. First i got the box out of the closet - a task worthy of Hercules. Might still be sore from that endeavor. So many moving boxes/totes. This is the second time i will be using this artificial tree. For the past several years i have been borrowing my sister's (allegedly) because of its smaller footprint.
Instead of the lazy plastic balls, i intend to use ornaments. Though, last time i used ornaments my Professor Hinkle (Frosty the Snowman) disappeared, never to be seen again. My ornaments are heavy on the Rankin/Bass theme. Lots of Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and Frosty. Wish there were some for Twas the Night Before Christmas ("Even a miracle needs a hand"). Some are Hallmark, some are Enesco, some are miscellaneous.
If you are wondering, i have two Xmas trees that i bought at Walmart. This one is a 6' tall one with a semi-sturdy top branch (non-LED). My other tree was a clearance (80+% off) Walmart tree that is 7' tall with LED lights. Not sure i could have fit that one. In some ways, i like incandescent lighting better than LED.
Real trees are better, but i really hate putting on the lights and the annual cost. i did try to plant my "living Xmas tree" at my sister's house. It is apparently still alive (a Blue Spruce). Wish it would grow to 6'.
* Xmas decorations: i left the lights outside for most of the year, strongly doubt most of them still work. Light clips do not last from year to year. So, some exterior illumination still needed (my father never taught me anything about it, unlike Clark W. Griswold). My room is almost completely decorated, still need to put together some LEGO Winter Village series.
* This awful election season is almost over. The anti-initiative ads here are the most disingenuous (and least truthful) i have ever seen. Most left-leaning ads have been light on facts. "Millionaires are evil" - sponsored by 3 billionaires. Campaign ads- good riddance, don't hurry back. i will not miss your hiatus for 1.5 years.
* The Wile E. Coyote problem: what do you do when you actually get what you want, and it doesn't go the way you anticipated. There was an episode where the Coyote did briefly "catch" the Road Runner, but their size differential proved problematic. He held up a sign saying "OK, wise guys, you always wanted me to catch him. Now what do i do?"
Some hopes/wishes have underlying problems you may not have considered. Sometimes the chase is what you want, and the outcome is unfulfilling. Other times, the outcome is itself a problem. Like people whose lives are "destroyed" after winning the lottery.
