Random Musings Today: Stuff?

Another random musing post.  Let's see what has been weak the last few weeks...

* Coming off of 3 months of Crunchyroll streaming/binging (three month each for $.99 ended about a week ago).  Maybe another post on that one.  At some point, you are scraping the bottom of the barrel and stuff is less interesting.  i did rewatch a few shows this time.  Still about 7 Spring Season shows i'd like to finish at some point in the future (to, the extent i have one).

 * Puzzles: finished six 1,000-piece puzzles in about 12 days.  It is getting harder to do (questionable lighting, harder to discern color differences, dropping pieces on the floor, etc).  So many whites, grays, and browns.  Two were "mystery puzzles" - the puzzle is not the picture on the box (makes things a bit harder).

Puzzle tip: sorting plays a big role in completion time.  It is better to set asides pieces for certain blocks of the puzzle (like flowerbeds, or prominent features) then "take it as it comes".  One puzzle (from China) had the section written on the back (A-F).  i think that one took less than 6 hours.

i sold 8 puzzles at the yard sale for $1 each.  i already have two puzzles in hand for next Winter Solstice.

* Mostly decorated for Halloween already (i was already going into the closet to put things away after the yard sale).  i still have to clean the table up a little (to the extent i can) and put up a couple of "Halloween" adjacent LEGO sets.  One of which, is from the new Midnight Valley Collection (hopefully the Halloween-ish answer to the Winter Village series) that i should get early September.

i wish i would have known about the Monster Fighter sets released in 2012 (at least the Vampyre Castle, 9468).

* Recently had a 2 day (7AM - 4:30PM) scheduled power outage for two days.  Kind of a pain in the lower extremities.  i thought no internet for a couple of days is bad, no power makes things much worse.

* What to do next?  i've finished puzzles, decorated for Halloween (mostly), and don't currently have a streaming subscription.  So, what do i do next?  Video games?  Or maybe "try to take over the world".  Most of the world isn't worth the hassle anyway.

* After yard sale: 2 trips to GameStop and one to a store in the mall to trade-in video games (for "cash").  Game Stop version of cash was a prepaid Master Card (which i used for AMZN credit, the only way i know to use the full balance on the card).

* Change (the coin type):

- Trying to get my hands on a few of the 2026 US coins.  Considering overpriced rolls of "Enduring Liberty" Half Dollars (a clean design), Declaration of Independence (quarter), and Constitution (quarter).  Don't like the inclusion of the Gettysburg Address quarter - surely, they could have come up with a better theme.  Kind of weird to see different obverses (fronts/heads) on quarters.  Will probably have to overpay for some loose coins.  Too bad i can't use AMZN gift card to buy these.

- Recently found out about the, let's call it, female dog quarters 2022-2025 (aka American Women quarters). Had 14/20, so might as well get a folder for them.  A bunch of "first on coins" - DEI overkill: black, lesbian, Asian, "Native American", Hispanic, Hawaiian, Afro-Latina, jewish, and disability advocate.  Not pushing an agenda here or anything.

- US National Park Quarters: even though i broke four rolls of quarters, got for the yard sale.  Two sets, one has P&D slots (missing 7), one is a single coin set regardless of mint (missing 2).  Not easy to get Philadelphia quarters in a state dominated by the Denver mint releases.

Still missing:

  • 2018 Block Island (P or D)
  • 2018 Cumberland Island (P)
  • 2019 War in the Pacific (Guam) (P)
  • 2019 San Antonio Missions (P)
  • 2020 National Park of American Samoa (P)
  • 2020 Weir Farm (P)
  • 2020 Tallgrass Prarie (P and P or D)
  • 2021 Tuskegee Airmen (P), i guess i don't have the proof (S) version either
* That new Mattel Brick Shop Original Xbox Collector Building Toy Kit (blame the AMZN listing for that word salad) is looking tempting.  Release date: October 16, 2026 (pre-orders?).  The price is a bit on the high side $345 for 3,509 pieces.  Probably should have listed for $275-$300.
