Anime Musings After The Crunchyroll Binge

As a previous post indicated, i "watched" over 140 or so seasons of anime over a two-month period on a promotional offer.  Now i get to watch the several seasons i got for Solstice (3 are 24-episode seasons). Eventually i'll have to use the $50 Netflix card my "sister" gave me (that might be about 5 months).

So, what are some of the things that am pondering.

* Most were 12-episode seasons (about 5 hours, 4.5 or less if you skip credits).  There was 1 short season (4 episodes), and a few seasons were under 15 minutes per episode.

* i wish i could auto skip all credits and recaps.  They add nothing to the experience. In a standard 12-episode season, you could save at least a full episode of time just skipping credits.  i get that these are TV shows, but i wish i could skip them on Blu-Ray and streaming.

* 12-episode seasons are the sweet spot.  Used to think longer, but 24-episode seasons are getting harder for me to watch.  24-episode seasons are usually a better value proposition for buying though.

* Dubs are superior to subs: part of that was Crunchyroll via Prime. Subs are riddled with errors. Timing delays can render shows unwatchable.  Prime would occasionally change the language on the subs between episodes.  Going from English to French, German, Portuguese or Spanish makes subbed shows unwatchable.

* Rent-a-Girlfriend: how did i finish 3 seasons of that crap.  i used to think that the main character was a decent guy in a bad situation.  After watching all i could tolerate of Season 4 Episode 1 (less than half), he became grating.  i was hoping he would get nailed by a truck and Isekaied.  Maybe a new version of him wouldn't be so annoying and neurotic (and actually grow a pair).

* Too many choices make watching seasons more difficult.  i'd start a season on Crunchyroll then watch something else.  Most times forgetting to go back to the show.

* i hate inner monologues in anime: they seem like unnecessary bloat.  i don't give a damn what a character is thinking, just what they do.  LN/Manga people have an unhealthy relationship with them.

* More drawn to Isekai, Harem (subgenre), banished/fired from..., action, and rom coms.

* Most of the "critically acclaimed" shows kind of suck. Whether it is pretension or drama.

* Wish the Funimation releases would still be available in the US.  Ridiculously expensive and out of print, while the British versions are so much cheaper.  Really wish i had Quintuplets S1, and Arifureta S1.

* Crunchyroll has too much editing - Funimation would have been better in that regard.  i know they are showing the TV version, but why even animate scenes if there will be censorship boxes over 75+% of the screen.

* Number one show added to my wish list during that period: One Hundred Girlfriends Who Really (x5) Love You.

* Kind of tired of the whiny Isekai protagonists: oh no you can't kill anything (especially humans), champaign complaining about your "cheat skills" and the like.  It is not your world, get over it.
