Happy Easter

So another "holiday" is upon us.  This holiday is called Easter.  Once again, a holiday that the Christians superimposed on top of a pagan holiday (the pagans had the best holidays).  There is some degree of debate as to whether the Germanic pagan goddess Eostre existed (the supposed namesake of Easter).

Easter, as far as i'm concerned, is the day the Easter Bunny visists and leaves candy.  Mmm Cadbury mini eggs (i also like their caramel eggs and candy in general).  Way back in the day (whatever that means) my alleged father would hide Easter candy around the house.  On Easter morning (or after church - it was cruel to make a kid wait until after the boring church stuff) i would take my pseudo denim looking cloth Easter basket and go on a hunt for candy.  Of course, some of it would sink in the cheap plastic Easter grass.  Then i would eat it.  Easter is probably the third best "candy holiday," after Halloween and Xmas.

Apparently (according to Wikipedia) the bunny/hare has long been related to the Easter period in Norther Europe (one of the better historical pagan areas).  Unfortunately, most hares do not cluck like chickens or lay candy eggs.

Some people see Easter as a religious celebration.  i am not one of these people.  Personally, i don't like to celebrate some occurence (that didn't happen) that seems to break natural laws.  Coming back from the dead - impossible.  However, the Christian bible is prone to metaphors, allusions, coded messages, etc.  Yeah, celebrating a fictional criminal who was brutally executed for his crimes.

The Easter Bunny seems far less non-sensical to me that the other "accepted" reason to celebrate.
