Random Musings Today: Video Games, Flying, etc

Ready for more random musings that go nowhere?  Too bad you get them anyway.

* What do i have in common with Tom Selleck?  Maybe he has the Complete Series of Magnum P.I. on DVD too (don't know).  i have never sent a text message.  Have i ever mentioned that i hate phones.

* Persona 3 (video game): i probably put 40+ hours into Persona 3 Reload this last week. i did beat it and got all the achievements expect the one for maxing all Social Links. Too much micromanaging for my taste.  That one is kind of ridiculous: get level 10 for 20 or so people (some which start gated behind a characteristic score - like courage, charisma, or academics).   Then you get into the annoying structure of basically after school and evenings.

i never had that many relationships in high school: my number was closer to zero.  Never felt like i was ever really part of anything.

* Updates: constant updates on video games and mobile apps annoy the hell out of me.  i long for the days when things were a finished product - not a buggy mess shipped to meet deadlines.  No apps/games as a service type thing.  Mobile apps that want you to update them weekly (or more) are almost as bad.

Elder Scrolls Online is an annoying example of this.  i've had to "update" the whole thing at least 5 times (80+ GB each)

* Video games: i miss E3.  A big spectacle where games were announced in a short period in one place. Now it is a bunch of disjointed videos of projects.  i didn't watch MSFT's "event" for the third time in a row.  Most modern games don't interest me.  i want nothing to do with 4K.  i hate the Games as a Service model that so many take (maybe not fully) today.

i have a Series S but barely use it, why?  Mostly storage space.  Game files have ballooned in size.  Thought they were supposed to modularize games (letting you download the parts you really want and not the 30 or so language packs).  Guess not.

Having a 1TB internet download cap a month kind of limits what i can download.  Especially with 100GB games at launch.  The small onboard storage further dissuades downloads.  i'm the type who wants everything i "own" on the device at all times.  i don't trust online services to have what i want on demand (have "lost" several digital games/DLC on the Xbox 360 where they just disappeared from the store completely - and "owned" content doesn't always show up, or shows up unnamed).

$70 games, give me a break.  The last game i purchased at full price was the Grandia/Grandia 2 collection for the Xbox One ($40).  i would do the same for Lunar Silver Star/Lunar Eternal Blue.

* Flying: i used to kind of like flying.  That was before the unnecessary crazy overreach and overreaction to 9/11. Small reforms would have been more prudent, but the government went the other way.  The security theater known as TSA should never have existed. That people just gave in to this ridiculous and unnecessary hassle is a surprise to me.  Then we saw the COVID overreaction - slippery slope to authoritarianism anyone?

Not sure i could sit in a cramped plane (with diminished leg room) for several hours anymore.  It's hard enough for me to sit for 20 minutes in a car ride.
