Another MLB seasons is upon us. Today the Seattle Mariners open up the season against the California Angels (that is what I'm going to call them).
Last season, the Mariners were 1.5 games short of a Wild Card spot. This is the first season in a while where the Mariners are expected to not suck. Expectations almost alway lead to disappointment.
This could (but probably won't) be the first championship for the Mariners (founded in 1977). The San Diego Padres, Montreal Expos, Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays haven't won either. The Expos and the Mariners are the only teams on that list to never play in a World Series (ok, I looked it up).
So what stands between the Mariners and their first championship? Well, there are the four other teams in their division, the two other division champions and maybe the two wild cards - not to mention the NL Champion (probably the LA Dodgers). So in other words, seven or eight teams stand between the M's and their championship (which would be so much better than a Seahawks championship)
I see the Seattle Mariners as a 88-93 win team. I see the California Angels winning the division. I see the M's finishing 2nd (Oakland 3rd, Texas 4th and Houston 5th).
