What have i been thinking about lately? Where will this post go? Another good question
- Xmas Presents: Usually, i get myself some movies and stuff for Solstice. i still get some presents from Santa. Only one series left to watch from past years - Sgt. Bilko (Phil Silvers show). Usually, i "watch" TV shows on DVDs and movies while doing a puzzle or LEGO sets.
i got a marble coaster set from K'nex. Bad directions and it doesn't actually work right the vast majority of the time. At least i guessed correctly most of the time what the right piece was (the white bars of varying lengths). The tolerance for this to work were miniscule - an some of the pieces shift or warp.
- Puzzles: Every year i get myself 2 or so puzzles. The last 2-3 years it has been Thomas Kinkade Studios Xmas puzzles. Yes, i like his style - kind of a less abstract more commercial version of Impressionism (with some Norman Rockwell elements mixed in). i finished a few puzzles - mostly 1,000 piece in 3 days each (who knows the number of hours).
This year, my sister got me a 5,000-piece puzzle. Ok, so it was basically two 2,500-piece puzzles. Unfortunately, it was missing 2 pieces (at least i can't find them). Also, the halves didn't exactly fit together well (2nd picture for offset). Imagine two puzzles with edges around three sides each. This thing was massive 60" by 40". i put a leaf in the table. Done in under 14 days. Though i did finish "watching" much of the overrated sitcom Seinfeld while doing it.
- Seinfeld: definitely an overrated sitcom. Some episodes are not bad. It is surprising the got a second season after how bad the first one was. But, the worst episode of them all was the finale. Really, a fricking clip show (w/mostly minor characters)? Worse yet following a clip show.
If you haven't seen it, don't. i'll spoil it for you. Most of the episode centers around a trial for not helping out a crime victim (a "good Samaritan law"). The statute in question wouldn't have even applied since the crime they witnessed was armed robbery/carjacking. There is no possible way it could have been argued intervening would have been safe. Should never have made it past the grand jury or should have been dismissed by the judge.
The judge then allowed a series of anti-character witnesses. Like that would have been in anyway applicable to the facts of the case. True, the main characters of Seinfeld were neurotic, egotistical, damaged people.
What i got out of this episode was not that they had some type of karmic retribution, but that they were railroaded by a corrupt system. Allowing so much prejudicial testimony that didn't relate to the case. Over prosecuting innocent bystanders using a statute that is beyond ridiculous - and doesn't apply in this particular case.
- Went to Sonic: decent drinks/shakes for the price. Their food however is kind of low tier. i'd put their food beneath McDonalds. Also, eating in a car is rarely a good idea. Not like i can stand car rides more than 20 minutes - just so uncomfortable for me (what did they say, "chronic musculoskeletal" issue).
The area the Sonic is on used to be a Kmart (ok their parking lot). Now most of the area is in the process of being redeveloped into apartments (maybe 100 units). In my view population increase is never a good thing. More problems, no benefit for existing residents.
- Apartments: i am a suburbanite; i like basements and breathing room.
Yes, i have "lived" in apartments. Living in an apartment is not my idea of a good situation. i just can't relax (don't really feel safe). i also have an aversion to people in general. Not to mention that annoyance from loud neighbors or hearing the person upstairs having sex (the moaning and squeaking mattresses). Then you get into the concept that some idiot could cause a fire, then you'd be screwed.
If i have to be in an apartment, i prefer the ground floor. Except this one time the apartment was flooded with sewage (less than in inch deep) - that was not a good time.
